Charity

Controvento contributes to a beautiful solidarity project! The concept of turning kilometres travelled into donations to support the education and nutrition of less fortunate children, such as the orphans of Ayiti, is really powerful. It not only encourages physical activity, but also creates a connection between the effort of those who participate and the concrete impact on the children who will benefit.

WHY AYITI CHERI ITALIA ONLUS?

Our idea stems from a desire to help.

My wife Carlotta and I were incredibly fortunate to adopt Daïna, a wonderful Haitian girl who has brought immense joy and purpose into our lives. This experience transformed us profoundly, opening our hearts and minds to the importance of international cooperation, a concept we hadn’t fully understood before. Adoption connected us to Haiti in a way that made us keenly aware of the struggles and needs faced by countless children in the country. Throughout the long and emotionally challenging adoption process, we traveled to Haiti several times, each visit deepening our understanding of the situation and revealing the urgent need for support.

In Haiti, we saw firsthand how much help is needed to improve living conditions, particularly for orphaned and abandoned children. We met many inspiring people on similar journeys—volunteers and adoptive parents from around the world who dedicate their time, energy, and resources to make a difference in the lives of these children. Through cooperation projects and humanitarian aid, these individuals and organizations provide essentials like food, clothing, shelter, and access to education. For us, this was not just about adopting a child but about becoming part of a global community striving to create a brighter future for Haitian children in need.

Seeing this collective effort highlighted the vital importance of supporting sustainable, locally-driven projects that can improve the daily lives of vulnerable children. We realized that beyond providing immediate relief, these projects work to empower local communities, helping to build a resilient and hopeful future for the children. This experience with Daïna’s adoption has ignited a long-term commitment within us, a desire to contribute actively to initiatives that uplift and protect the most vulnerable in Haiti. By joining hands with others who share this vision, we hope to play our part in creating meaningful change and giving more children the opportunity to thrive in a caring and supportive environment.

Our Official Commitment

We, too, decided to contribute to this cause, and so we founded AYITI CHERI ITALIA Onlus (in Haitian Creole, “Dear Haiti”), a non-profit association that operates with full transparency and gives an official framework to our commitment. Our association is duly registered with the Unique Registry of Non-Profits of the Tuscany Region under no. 0037262. Donations we receive allow for tax benefits as provided by law when filing tax returns.

Ayiti Cheri Italia Onlus Supports the Activities of the BRESMA Foundation
A non-profit social organization active since 2003, BRESMA manages an orphanage, a primary and secondary school in the capital, Port-Au-Prince, and a primary school in Castaches, a rural area near Jérémie.

Free Access to Education for Underprivileged Families
BRESMA schools prioritize families who have had to give their children up for adoption, single parents, large families, or families living in tents or barracks. Children receive quality education, uniforms, school supplies, and two meals a day, breakfast and lunch. All school teachers and staff are Haitian, and the schools operate under the Haitian Ministry of Public Education program.

We are the first to help.

At Ayiti Cheri Italia Onlus, we have been personally supporting five children from the Bresma schools for two years, helping them pursue their dreams. Darla wants to become a doctor, Mikely an engineer, Woodmay a lawyer, Williams a scientist, and Neila a teacher. Do you remember what you wanted to be at their age?

Orphanage in Port-Au-Prince
This private facility is supported by associations and adoptive families, like ours. It hosts an average of about 60-80 children, with primary needs including infrastructure, food, clothing, medicine, and education.

BRESMA School in Port-Au-Prince
Inaugurated in 2006 in the Haitian capital, the school provides food, uniforms, and school supplies to around 300 primary and secondary students.

BRESMA School in Castaches
Inaugurated in 2010 in the northern part of the island, this school provides food, uniforms, and school supplies to approximately 350 primary students. It is the only school in the region, located in a rainy area, and has the only water tap in the area.

We guarantee free access to education for disadvantaged families. In partnership with the BRESMA Foundation, we assist families who have had to give up their children for adoption, single parents, large families, and those living in tents or makeshift shelters. Children receive a quality education, uniforms, school supplies, and two meals a day—breakfast and lunch. All teachers and school staff are Haitian, and the schools follow the program set by the Haitian Ministry of Public Education.
